The mission of the Faculty Development Lab (Moore 155B) is to assist faculty
in integrating technology into their teaching. Through consultation,
training, and support, staff enables faculty to enrich their course
delivery through technology-enhanced instruction. The lab is equipped
with 11 Windows XP PCs and 1 Mac OS X Mac Mini computers that are specifically
configured for multimedia development and desktop publishing. The lab
also is also equipped with a high speed color laser printer with auto
duplexing for double-sided printing.
The Faculty Development Lab is open to faculty and staff of the college on a walk-in basis. The lab is not a student facility, but students working with faculty members can be authorized to use the lab as project assistants. The philosophy of the lab is to train faculty to use tools and then provide assistance if help is needed.
For general class lab instruction, faculty should continue to make reservations to conduct class in either the Mac lab or the PC lab following current procedures. Faculty teaching a class in which student technology projects are a required course outcome, e.g., sophisticated student multimedia projects, are invited to submit a proposal for authorization to use the development lab for class instruction on a semester-by-semester basis; in such cases students cannot be authorized to use the development lab to work on personal class projects outside of the hours of formal class instruction.
The faculty development lab was created with funds obtained by means of external contracts awarded to the Language Learning Center. LLC receives no regular UH allocations for technology purchases, so please treat this lab as if it were your own - it is. The lab belongs to all of us.
